There is something about September that makes you want to slow down a little.

The evenings start getting darker, the mornings feel a little cooler and suddenly a hot drink, a blanket and an evening at home sounds much more appealing than rushing around.

If you're ready to embrace the cosy side of autumn, here are 10 simple cosy autumn activities to help you enjoy September without needing to spend a fortune or completely rearrange your life.

1. Have a proper cosy night in

Put your phone on charge in another room, make your favourite drink, get into your comfiest clothes and choose something comforting to watch.

It doesn't need to be complicated.

Sometimes the best evenings are the ones where absolutely nothing exciting happens.

2. Start a colouring session

Colouring is such an easy way to make an ordinary evening feel a little more intentional.

Put on your favourite playlist or podcast, grab your pencils and spend 20 minutes colouring without worrying about whether you're doing it "right".

There are no rules.

You don't need to be an artist. You just need a page and a little time for yourself.

3. Make your favourite autumn drink

You don't need an expensive coffee shop trip to create an autumn ritual.

Try making a hot chocolate, chai latte, cinnamon coffee or your favourite cup of tea at home.

Put it in your favourite mug and actually sit down to drink it rather than carrying it around while doing seventeen other things.

4. Have a screen-free evening

We spend so much of our free time scrolling that sometimes the best cosy activity is simply putting your phone away.

Try an hour without social media.

Read a book, colour, journal, listen to music, do a puzzle or simply sit and enjoy the quiet.

It might feel strange for the first ten minutes.

Then you'll probably wonder why you don't do it more often.

5. Make your bedroom feel cosier

You don't need to completely redecorate.

Add a blanket to the end of your bed, switch on a lamp instead of the big light, change your bedding or add a print to your wall.

Small changes can make your space feel completely different.

6. Have an autumn baking day

Choose something simple.

Cookies, brownies, banana bread, cupcakes or whatever makes your kitchen smell amazing.

Put on some music while you bake and don't worry about making it Instagram-perfect.

The point is enjoying the process.

7. Go for an autumn walk

September is a lovely time to get outside.

Take a walk somewhere local and pay attention to what's changing around you.

Look for changing leaves, cooler mornings, interesting buildings, flowers and little details you normally walk straight past.

You don't need to turn it into a fitness challenge.

Just go for a wander.

8. Make an autumn playlist

Create a playlist specifically for your cosy season.

Add songs that make you feel calm, nostalgic, happy or slightly dramatic.

Bonus points for making yourself a little playlist cover.

Then put it on while you're colouring, cooking or tidying your room.

9. Have a little self-care evening

Forget the idea that self-care needs to be a huge routine.

Try:

  • A long shower or bath

  • Fresh pyjamas

  • Your favourite skincare

  • A face mask

  • A cup of tea

  • Ten minutes of colouring

  • An early night

You don't have to earn rest.

10. Buy yourself a tiny treat

This one is important.

You don't always need a reason to buy yourself something.

It could be a new mug, a cute card to keep for later, a print for your wall, a colouring book or simply your favourite chocolate bar.

A little treat can be a lovely way to mark the beginning of a new season.

Your September reminder

You don't have to completely reinvent yourself when autumn arrives.

You don't need a new routine, a new wardrobe, a five-step morning routine and a colour-coded life plan.

Sometimes a good September looks like slowing down.

  • Making something.

  • Having a cosy evening.

  • Doing something that makes you happy simply because it makes you happy.

So make yourself a drink, grab your colouring pencils and give yourself permission to enjoy the little things.

Welcome to your cosy season. 🍂💗
